Amitabh Kumar ist bildender Künstler, Comic-Herausgeber, Producer und Kurator mit Sitz in Bangalore, Indien. Nach über einem Jahrzehnt der Malerei im öffentlichen Raum haben sich seine Rolle und sein Verständnis von diesen Bereich weiterentwickelt. Was als eine Übung der Selbsterkundung und -entdeckung begann, wurde erweitert durch ein ausgeprägtes Verantwortungsbewusstsein gegenüber Interessengruppen, Partnern und der breiten Öffentlichkeit. Dies führt Schritt für Schritt zu einer Auflösung dessen, was das künstlerische Selbst will – und findet in der Atelierpraxis eine neue Dimension. Amitabh erforscht im Atelier Tendenzen, Behandlungen und Geschichten verschiedenster Art.
Amitabh Kumars aktuelle Arbeiten spiegel seinen Sinn für makabren Humor und die Schaffung von Symbolen, die ein Gefühl plumper Bedrohung vermitteln. Die Form des Hundes und seine Beziehung zur Mythologie und zu urbanen Situationen bietet Raum für eine komplexe symbolische Darstellung, die gleichzeitig ursprünglich, wild, freundlich und gewöhnlich ist. Die Bilder erforschen diese Ideen.

Amitabh Kumar is a visual artist, comix publisher, event producer and curator based in Bangalore, India. With over a decade of painting in Public Spaces, his role and understanding of it has evolved. What began as an exercise of self exploration and discovery has now come to be defined by a keen sense of responsibility to stakeholders, partners and the larger public. This results in a dissolution of what the artistic self wants – and finds a lease of life in studio practice. Amitabh has been exploring tendencies, treatments and stories of varied kinds in the studio.
Amitabh Kumar’s current body of work responds to sense of macabre humour and creating symbols/icons that can communicate this sense of clumsy menace. The canine form and it’s relationship to mythology and urban situations offers room for a complex symbolic representation that are primal, savage, friendly and common at the same time. The images explore these ideas.

Amitabh Kumar es un artista visual, editor de comic, productor de eventos y comisario afincado en Bangalore (India). Con más de una década pintando en el espacio público, su papel y su forma de entenderlos han evolucionado. Lo que empezó como un ejercicio de autoexploración y descubrimiento ha pasado a definirse por un agudo sentido de responsabilidad ante las partes interesadas, los socios y el público en general. El resultado es una disolución de lo que el „yo“ artístico desea, que encuentra una nueva vida en la práctica del estudio.
La obra actual de Amitabh Kumar responde al sentido del humor macabro y a la creación de símbolos/iconos que puedan comunicar una sensación de torpe amenaza. La forma canina y su relación con la mitología y las situaciones urbanas ofrece espacio para una representación simbólica compleja que es primitiva, salvaje, amistosa y común al mismo tiempo.
